Founded in 2001 by Sofia Costa Freire, Artform is a vibrantly creative consultancy that offers end-to-end service for clients who are passionate about their art and investments. 

We advise those interested in art – with newly started or already established collections – purchasing, managing and cataloguing their works. We act in all stages, from advising on the acquisition of works and negotiation to transportation, assembly, storage, and insurance policies. Our team is fully dedicated to hiring, running and curating projects and art installations.

Our mission is to deliver innovative ideas and expert advice for architects, interior designers, art collectors and image-conscious businesses worldwide. Through our know-how, we understand the inner workings of the market, looking for the best opportunities, according to resources and objectives in the medium and long term of each collector, and each art project on a bespoke basis. 

Assertive acquisitions and heritage preservation will always be a concrete objective of our team. At Artform our clients receive a comprehensive immersion into the international contemporary & modern art world with individualized service and total discretion. We are constantly monitoring and analyzing movements in the primary and secondary markets, as well as auction results.

Over the last twenty years, we have established a significant international network of relationships for our clients with curators, gallery owners, museum directors as well as contemporary artists.

At Artform, we ensure we fully understand your artistic preferences taking into account any artwork you own, as well as the characteristics of your physical space, interiors scheme and financial budget. Our team will identify artists for your consideration and leverage our relationships in the art market to obtain high-quality artworks.

COLLECTING STRATEGIES

We deliver expert advice and create a bespoke strategy for acquisitions and sales negotiations throughout the management of your collection. A comprehensive catalogue of your artworks will be elaborated including detailed information regarding technique, dating, location, exhibition history... Our team will also manage museum loans and appraisals, monitor transports, storage and conservation.

ART VALUATION, FMV AND
INSURANCE

If you have an existing collection, an appraisal is a good place to start, allowing us to gain an understanding of the artworks you have, as well as facilitate an up-to-date evaluation for insurance or sale purposes. 

As art prices fluctuate frequently, to obtain the fair market value of an artwork, we are constantly monitoring and analyzing movements in the primary and secondary markets in order to identify the best opportunities and strategies.

Meet the team

  • Executive Director

    Her future was set on an Economics degree, but soon realized that her business was the Art Business… Sofia studied at Sotheby’s Institute, wrote a thesis on artist Paula Rego and worked at Sotheby’s London office, followed by Palacio do Correio Velho in Lisbon.

    Sofia advises various clients, collectors, interior designers and Architecture firms. Furthermore, she has edited two books on artworks represented in private collections, “KWY/Nouveaux Réalistes” and “Pintura Alemã Contemporânea em colecções Portuguesas”, as well as a monograph of Nikias Skapinakis.

  • General Coordinator

    When she decided to continue her secondary studies at a professional design school her family was fairly supportive, not because they wanted her to, but because she didn’t give anyone a chance to think otherwise… Catarina is like that. The natural process followed a degree in design from IADE. She dipped her toes in graphic design working at Journal Público, this made her realize that she needed a more creative challenge.

    With her keen interest in aesthetics, when challenged by our project she gladly accepted and has spoiled us with her energy and good mood.

As independent art consultants we do not act as agents for artists as we select work based on its suitability for each project, however, we are always interested in discovering new talent.
